It IS possible to make a crystal report showing all invoices ever created
and all the associated payments, paid or unpaid.

In case anyone ever needs to do it, the trick is to link the InvoiceItems
table to the Payments table using a left outer [=(+) *=] link. You can do
this by opening the Visual Linking Expert, clicking on the link line
between the two tables, selecting Options..., and modifying the SQL Join
Type to Left Outer.

This link lets you link two tables and show all of the data in the first
table even if it doesn't have any corresponding entry in the second table.
