Let my ignorance of DNS shine. (and yes I do have a copy of DNS & Bind)

What is the problem of naming a machine two names with an A record? We use
MS DNS and I typically do that so a person can get their site resolved for
either http://theirdomain.com and http://www.theirdomain.com

Are you supposed to use a CNAME if you put two addresses to the same IP?
