Hi,

I am looking for a mail server software package that will allow me to offer
a service wherein my users may create an extra email account (no admin
intervention required) either on an NT user base or else on a separate
database.

The idea is to be able to do this via a web interface.

Any clues?

Thanks

If you type ping on the router (I think) it asks you for thew source
address as one of the rolling questions.

Try it...

Hello
I got the following config. 2 routers, connected through
frame relay, using eigrp, one of them is connected to the
internet (router A). The frame relay has private IP addresses
assigned to each side (192.168.2.4/30 network)
If router B does a ping outside , it can't receive an answer
because it sends the packet with a source route of 192...
instead of the IP of the ethernet (208.135...) which is valid.

Is there a form to force with IP addres to use as source
address? (without using ip unnumbered)
The wan does not have any connectivity problems (I can
ping each side without problems)
Any help is very appretiated

Best regards...

One of the mail server packages that comes to mind is NTmail. It has a web
based interface and it allows you to setup a person as the postmaster for a
certian domain. I have personally had good and bad experineces with it ,
but still like it over several of the other mail packages that are out there.

Hello.

On my NT Server 4.0 machine, I run RadiusNT with an Access 97 .mdb file as
its ODBC database.

I have a Win 95 workstation that has Access 97 running on it.

I get to open / edit / and view the .MDB file on my NT Server via Network
Neighborhood.

When my dial-in users increase, I will need to upgrade Access 97 to SQL
Server.

What do I have to install on my Win 95 workstation to continue opening /
editing my database ?

Sure, you can have a web interface to create new NT user accounts but do you
really want to do this? What will stop everyone from coming in and creating
accounts that can then use mail or are you trying to make a free mail
service? If you are doing that, you may want to consider Emurl from Seattle
Labs that allows someone to see their mail on existing POP3 servers via the
web.

Are you trying to allow the user to make only ONE extra account?

We doing this with IMail from Ipswitch. If a user is given the proper rights
they are able to create new users to a preset limit. This is all available
through their web interface. (which I believe is not included free) We are
using this for private domain names, if you are using a common domain
name this may grant them access to create unlimited accounts and
modify other accounts (not necessarily wise)

Danny,

You will still be able to access your SQL database from Access, and you can
continue to use forms and other queries as well. You will have to rewrite
them to reflect the tables and rows in the SQL server database where they
differ.

You need to plan a little for this, as the port is not always as clean as
you would like, but it is not an impossible mission.

That's great !!

Now the question is, how many client licenses should i buy for SQL Server ?

Only I and the RADIUS server will be adding data to the tables. But all my
users will be viewing the SQL Server table contents via an ASP page. I guess
this means I have to buy the Internet Connector module too.

Go to Services and make the Webmail service MANUAL, not automatic. If this
is already done, then search your entire registry for "Webmail", or the
directory name Webmail is in. Remove all occurences of it. Make sure your
startup window doesn't have it in there either.

There is a registry key located

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

that lists all services...perhaps the key for Webmail was not removed?
Do you still see a listing for WebMail in the SCM?

Jerry:

I am not sure I understand your question correctly, but here it is:

I presume that you have a user that is getting a "mailbox in use" error
message while trying to retrieve his email over POP3?

There used to be a problem in VOPMail 1.0.165 (and all the IMS derivatives)
where this could occur in some tricky circonstances, but we fixed that in
1.0.166 and since then haven't had this reported as a problem.

You should only get this message while the user DOES have another POP3
connection opened. (It could be a connection that was never closed because
the user just hung up the line and the TCP timeouts didn't take place yet
because he called back too fast).

POP3 does not really allow for two mail clients accesing the same mailbox at
the same time. (IMAP4 does).

If a POP3 connection is "stuck" because of an ungracefull close (modem
hangup), it will timeout automatically after 10 minutes.

You may want to contact support@vircom.com, they can have a look at your
logs to see if this can be explained.

Hi Dave,

Yes, I want to be able to allow my current users to open an extra email
account. The idea is that this extra account is NOT opened as an NT user
account but rather on a different database used by the Mail Server. In that
way I won't be limiting the login names available to dial-up customers.

I currently am evaluating Mailsite but it does not seem to allow this.

Does anyone use a secure telnet server? Something offering encryption
between client and server? I need to provide a secure access to some
proprietary UNIX based apps, but do not want login & data sent as cleartext.

Thanks

IMail allows you to set up a Host Administrator. This user can modify, add
and delete users under there virtual host which is their domain. Therefore
if JOE is a host admin for YOURDOMAIN.COM then he has control via the
web interface for the entire virtual host. You as the ISP can set the max limit
on accounts from 1 to unlimited. Therefore, he could be allowed to set up one
additional account only by using this limit. Also, If all the customer needs is
to receive mail to another name on the host, a "nobody" alias can be defined
to pickup mail from anyname sent to the virtual host and forward to wherever
necessary, internal or external to your mail server.

I know Sylvain has already replied, but I'd like to add that we host a
mailing list specifically dealing on VOPMail and on the HTML interface
add-on. You can join by email mailto:vopmailbeta-request@vircom.com and put
the word "subscribe" in the body of the email.

This mailing list is also a good place for prospective buyers to get
references from other ISPs using the product.

Richard.

Subject: Download Problems
From: "John David M. Miller" <webmaster@samnet.net>
Date: Thu, 27 Aug 1998 13:24:36 -0400

One of our customer's has been experiencing an
odd download problem from his web site.

It appears that all (majority) of his non-US visitors are unable
to effectively download files from his site. For the most part
the files they receive, if they are able to get anything, are
corrupted.

I have tried setting him up with a virtual FTP server on our
Serv-U FTP server. Previously he had been using a straight
http link of his download page. I have accessed and downloaded
his file while connected to Us, Earthlink, and AOL with no
problems. In effect I cannot duplicate his problem.

I was hoping someone might have seen this before or have
some suggestions for further testing. Is this a common problem?
Does anyone know of somewhere in Europe that me might be
able to mirror the files. They are only about 1Mb each (qty. 2)
and are accessed perhaps 5-10 times per day.

The site address is http://www.simplewindows.com and the ftp
is ftp://ftp.simplewindows.com

I have not experienced this with any of the other sites we host
but I suspect that most of the downloads are domestic in origin.

TIA

John David M. Miller

Could you use ssh? Ssh is intended as a complete replacement for
rlogin, rsh, rcp, and rdist. It can also replace telnet in many cases.

Try:

http://www.ssh.org/

for more info.

-Lance

P.S. I've copied a little text from the SSH info page below.

Ssh (Secure Shell) is a program to log into another computer over
a network, to execute commands in a remote machine, and to move
files from one machine to another. It provides strong
authentication and secure communications over insecure channels.
Its features include the following:

•Strong authentication. Closes several security holes (e.g., IP,
routing, DNS spoofing, and listening for passwords from the
network). New authentication methods: .rhosts together with RSA
based host authentication, and pure RSA authentication.

•All communications are automatically and transparently
encrypted. Encryption is also used to protect against spoofed
packets and hijacked connections.

•X11 connection forwarding provides secure X11 sessions.

•Arbitrary TCP/IP ports can be redirected over the encrypted
channel in both directions.

•Client RSA-authenticates the server machine in the beginning of
every connection to prevent trojan horses (by routing or DNS
spoofing) and man-in-the-middle attacks. The server
RSA-authenticates the client machine before accepting .rhosts or
/etc/hosts.equiv authentication (to prevent DNS, routing, or IP
spoofing).

•An authentication agent, running in the user's local workstation
or laptop, can be used to hold the user's RSA authentication keys.

•Multiple convenience features fix annoying problems with rlogin
and rsh.

This is a common issue when you install NT, install SP3, then install
SNMP. The problem is that you have the SP1 SNMP files running with SP3
and that doesn't wuite work. :) re-install SP3 for NT and it wil
resolve the issue. Typically when you install any network or NT
portions after installing SP3, you should re-install SP3.
