Adaptec 2940

The local computer store is telling me I can't plug a 9.1 GB UW drive into
the Adaptec 2940 UW controller. They say the 2940 UW can't handle a drive
bigger than 8 GB and that I need an Adaptec 2940 U2W.

Is this true?
