Excite search engine for NT

Has anyone configured a custom filter file for Excite 1.1.5b1 (with the
most recent Perl patch) for NT?

I simply want it to not index anything in directories like:
z:\cgi-bin
z:\temp
z:\_* (directories created by FP extensions, etc.)
any file in any directory ending in .cgi
etc.

I found a sample file in the NT Docs on Excite's website, and used its
layout, but no matter what I do, the indexing process finds all ASCII files
in any directory on the partition that I have Excite index (in the above
example, drive Z).
Before indexing, I checked the option to use a "custom filter file" and
entered in the physical address for it (c:\ews\filename) but that didn't
seem to do the trick.

If anyone has the correct syntax for this file, I'd sure appreciate knowing
what it's supposed to look like.

Thanks,
