This comment reflects your obvious ignorance. Java and other "sandbox"
based languages are terribly limited in what they can access on a local
client hard drive and are therefore very limited in what they can do.
ActiveX (previously OLE) is an incredibly powerful croos platform
cross-application method of implementation that will be around long after
netscape has gone away. Netscape's failure to implement the OBJECT tag as
specified by the WWW consortium is the issue I was talking about, which has
nothing to do with bloat, performance, or "application suites". It has to
do with how HTML is coded.
The netshow player handles real audio feeds as a stand alone application
without any suites or add ons. Before you post something sounding so
authoritarian get your facts straight. You don't even know what you are
talking about.

I'm at the moment listening to the live stadium feed using realaudio.
Better sound quality and it doesn't require a CPU gagging, HD-hogging
"suite" of "multimedia applets". ActiveX is the poor-man's Win32-ised
java-lite. Anything it can do, other applications or languages can do
better, faster, and more portably.
It looks to me that if M$ can't handle the Justice Department very soon
they will be dead.
