On a TNT , I believe an option that might affect you is in the PPP-Answer
Menu.

<PPP-Answer> is within <Answer-defaults>

Check the <recieve-auth-mode>

I think that the most basic is:

recieve-auth-mode=pap-ppp-auth

or you can set for pap and chap:

recieve-auth-mode=both-ppp-auth

I dont recall an option that would force a terminal window...but you might
check to see if you have something weird in there.
