RE: [NTISP] MS DNS Probs

I have had the root server file get corrupted and not been able to fix it by
replacing the text file(s). Only way to fix it was to remove the service and
re-install it. It's a pain depending on how many zones you have. If you
don't have many than it's fairly easy to just remove the service, reinstall
the service, then add your zones back. I don't know why it happens but I
have been there... don't shoot the messenger <g>

It has something to do with the registry entries getting hosed and not
updating properly. I have read that the problem(s) occur much less
frequently if you boot using the text file instead of the registry, but that
would defeat the whole reason for me to use it.

Granted, take what I say with a grain of salt... I have been accused
repeatedly of applying a "consultants" quick fix on these kind of
problems... but the truth is my DNS has gotten hosed a half dozen or so
times in the last 4 years and an uninstall-reinstall usually fixes it before
I can figure out what caused the problem in the first place. You need
someone smarter than me to tell you WHY it happens. All in all tho I am real
happy with M$ DNS... although sometimes I feel like it might as well be
running on a mac...
