[NTISP] IIS hangs on ASP access to ADODB

We are running IIS 4.0 under NT 4.0 sp3

We have several websites processing Access Databases using ASP (VBScript)
with the ADODB set of methods. We upgraded from IE4 to IE5 on the web
server and suddenly any ASP page that used ADODB will hang on or around the
Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") command and do nothing until
interrupted. We have uninstalled IE5 which totally crashed IIS due to
removal of the ProtectedStorage process. We reinstalled IE4, IIS4.0 and
ASP to regain web services, but the ADODB continues to hang when hitting
Access Databases. Oddly, if we reboot the web server software, it appears
to work for one hit and will then hang on second and subsequent hits (this
might be a Red Herring).

I have searched the M$ knowledge base for IIS and ASP with keywords like ADO
& hangs, but none of the articles seem to apply. Has anyone seen and
solved this problem? If so, how???
