I'm still very new to the DNS and IIS 4.0
The network's setup is rather simple with 2 NT4 server (with
OptionsPack). The first server (PDC) was serving as a files & printing
which connected to 30 users running win95. The 2nd server (standalone)
was running as a Mail, DNS & Web server (IIS 4.0) which was connected to
a the internet via Proteon Router and 64K leased line.
We have two registered domain;
(1)dpcomputers.com.sg with IP 203.127.46.88 assign by ISP,
(2)senghuatpaper.com which is sharing the same IP.
Although I've been told by the ex-staff that's was the only IP
information given by the ISP. But after checking thru Whois, I found that
the ISP had actually given out a block of IP of 203.127.46.80 -
203.127.46.95
(1) My fist question, may I know why the ISP assigned us so many IP
address and what are they for? I know it a must to have a IP to get your
network connected to the internet. But, I thought we require only about 3
IP taking into account of the IP for the router and dpcomputers.com.sg
What should I do with the rest?
(2) Everything work perfectly for dpcomputers.com.sg until I was told to
host two different domain on the web-server. I understand that it
possible to host different domains on NT4 and IIS 4.0 by adding
additional IP address to the NIC and assign the new IP to the 2nd
web-site. But whenever users access www.senghuatpaper.com, it always show
the webpage for www.dpcomputers.com.sg. As the server was setup by the
ex-staff using the BIND 4.97 for the DNS, and I'm quite new to this, can
any experts guide me to the errors and correction, please...?
I've read a lot of articles & FAQ on the net, but most of them are just
straight forward as though the internal network is using internet IP
address as well. I just cannot find any articles and help on how should I
setup the DNS's related files (e.g., Named.boot, ...zone files..etc), so
that the system know how to differntial the internet's IP and internal-
network's IP.. Can any experts please enlighten me?
