I use the database management wizard to backup my database daily. That way
if I loose my .dat file I can restore from the dump.

backup the .dat files
create new devices using same (or new) names
create a db using the new devices
stop sql server and overwrite the new .dat files with the old ones
start sql and you should have a working db
i pulled it off once so it should work.
