Subject: A question on NT licensing
From: "David Payer" <david.payer@ia-omni.com>

I run several stand alone NT servers for various functions but have not used
many of the MS products for NT besides IIS. I anticipate using Exchange for
a particular project and have looking into buying a Back Office license and
have found what appear to be a good deal on software via usenet.

I understand if I want to have 50 simultaneous connections, I need a 50 CAL
version of the license. If I buy a 50 user version of Backoffice, does that
automatically equate to 50 simultaneous users on each or any of the programs
that are included in that CD, such as Exchange?

Also, the version I am considering is not the latest revision but it is the
same base revision number (5.0 vs 5.5 for Exchange). Is it MS policy (as it
is for the IIS) that the other programs of the Back Office Suite are
upgradeable without additional costs to the latest revision within the same
general revision?

I hate buying software for a +ACI-good deal+ACI- and then find out it doesn't fit
the bill and you have few recourses, on the other hand, I enjoy saving a
thousand dollars if I can.

Any insights on the licensing issue are appreciated.

Hi,

Earlier on today I posted a question about upgrading from one processor Kernal
to Multiprocessor kernal. I tried using the uptomb.exe program and ended up
having an ntfs error on loading.

To cut a long story short.....

I had two mirrored drives of 3G each, I broke the mirror and formatted one drive.
The other drive which formed part of the mirror is now being seen as an UNKNOWN
format.

Fdisk in DOS can see that the drive is an NTFS drive.

I have tried the editreg program that is mentioned in the support section @microsoft.com
but that did not help. The drive format is still shown as unknown.

I have very valuable data on the drive which I really need to access urgently.
Does anyone know what I can do? If you mention the use of a utility I would
really appreciate your pointing me towards its direction.

Thanks

HI

I am not sure if this will help, but I had an NTFS problem once and need a
program from the NT Resource Kit. I think it was called FTedit. It
allowed me to edit the drive description table and add a missing drive.

Maybe it will help
