Is anyone having troubles with MCI trying to force amendments to contract
(WHICH TOTALLY CHANGE THE ORIGINAL CONTRACT) when asked to change the
bandwidth for an internet pipe?

It seems we may be forced into seeking a legal action to make MCI honor its
original contract.

Does anyone know if there are any existing class action suits against them
that follow the same legal arguments.

Failure of MCI to increase our bandwidth is putting a heavy crunch on our
customer relations.

Thanks for any Information.

I have seen this in Minneapolis. I know of one particular bad experience
with a company called US internet. Contact Kurt at www.usinternet.com.

HI

Please excuse my rant, I quit smoking yesterday, and had my third call this
morning from people who installed Netscape 16 bit version on Win98, dl'd
communicator, installed it and can't figure out what's wrong, and want me
to fix it for FREE!

What would happen if all the ISP's and Computer Service Companies in the
US/World got together and jointly QUIT supporting stupid people. Made them
pay by the minute for hand holding. Told Bill to support his own junk
software. And generally told stupid home computer users to take that junk
they bought at circuit city back and NEVER touch anything more complex than
a wind up alarm clock. (Even though most of them wouldn't understand the
precise concept of counter-clockwise)

Thanks for letting me blow off steam.

[BTW] Carpet cleaner killed the cricket that has been driving me nuts for
the last week. (Hope this does not incite a riot of animal rights
activists) I will probably go to jail for this one.

Two calls from dolts who can't figure out why their 386sx, drive overlay
software on a 12GB drive with 8 partitions, will not run win98, (looser98).

Thanks again

Hi John,

I completely understand your feelings, and I agree with much of what you said (which is whymy staff asks that I not handle technical supportcalls).

However, the thing that is important for all ofus to remember is that the Internet has broughtcomputing to hundreds of thousands of peoplewho would have never had a computer otherwise.

To many of them, it is new, frightening, uncomfortable, and foreign. Certainly not an excuse, but something I think is important tokeep in mind when, for the fourth time, explainingthere really isn't an "any" key on the keyboard.

Best of luck!Tom

HI

You are right, and they have brought me income beyond my wildest dreams.

But, and everyone has a but!

Then they should train the sales reps at circus city to tell customers thatthey will have to "PAY" for support. And that they should hire a"QUALIFIED" "Computer Professional", and that the guy next door is "NOT" acomputer expert, even if he did install his own hard drive, and says heknowa all there is to know.

Heck, I am a newcommer to this business with only 9 1/2 years of experiance.WHAT DO I KNOW? I get fooled every day (Darn You M$). But as sure as myname is John, I shouldn't have to "GIVE AWAY" 9 years of hard work, sweat, and banging my head against a brick wall because someone told them thatthey could get free support for EVERY program the ever STOLE, by justcalling & demanding that they downloaded it while they were online thru mycompany, I have to support it. They are even dumb enough to beleive thatit came off one of MY SERVERS!

[Man, I am really fired up today]

OK, Enough of this. The lists are too full of whiners lately anyway.

Thanks ALLJOhn :}

Do what we do: We also run a computer retail location with service center. We offer free service for 1) hardware we sell... 2) software we are OEMfor... 3) Internet connection or navigation problems. We try to offer SOMEhelp for beginners and occasional help for downloaders and bargain softwarepurchased from a sellout at Walmart, but if it isn't really ourresponsibility and theres no simple fix we do one of two things:

--Tell them to call either the software company they are having troublewith, or the hardware company that made their unit, whichever applies. Welay all responsibility for such things directly on themanufacturer/developer, where it should be.--If that wont work, we will service the unit for them at standard repairrates, like any industry would. (If Ford won't fix your car for you, ourindependent mechanics will be glad to look at it for a normal fee...) Mostpeople are pleased that our services are available when the source of theirproblem sidesteps responsibility, and our customers dont mind paying for itas long as we produce results. (Better than throwing it in the dumpster!)

Once we gain their trust with solving a few "unsolvable" problems, weusually become their heroes and we have a very dedicated and loyal customer(as long as we continue to take care of them!)

I still believe in fair trade, and I think most consumers would agree.

Thats my opinion anyway.Kevin Ingram

I did work on one in Java Script. Simple, it's an extension to one ofthe things that I found out there on the Net, except this one works.Adds things up as you go and sends the information via E-mail at theend.

Probably the most basic when it comes to customization yet you can applyit to a large store.

Re: What would happen if...---------------------------Hey, This is funny too!-----------------------

Microsoft is a very tough player when it comes to software development.I read that they used to change their own OS code just to createconflict with a particular third party software. This was theappropriate strategy against Lotus when Microsoft entered thespreadsheet market, that is what one of the books published on Microsoftclaims (which one was it? Hard Drive I think.)

I don't find it a far fetched idea that they would do the same toNetscape. Bill Gates' first job was hacking mainframes for computer timewould suggest of such a thing to be acceptable and natural to him.Besides it would be a much more economic solution for him to put tworeally sharp debugger guys and have them find some weak spots inNetscape within a few weeks, throw some additions in the MFC librariesthat abuse those weak spots and include it in the next Service Packs.(Netscape? Hahhh, for some reason they are not compatible with Windows98) Poor Netscape guys wouldn't have a clue what's going on until theyfind the actual procedure call that breaks when used.

And best of all: Microsoft can update their API's at will when THE NEEDcalls for it.

I'm very unhappy that I don't know anyone at Netscape. I would like tosuggest them that if they can't create their own code derived from themost common aspects of the API then find a different way to pass resultsbetween their components, I'm sure they could come up with many ways toaccomplish that.
