A known bug in FP98 that Microsoft hasn't fixed in many revisions. I doubt
they ever will. Install a good CGI forms handler, and tell them to use
that instead. COMMENTS.EXE is a good one.

Subject: NT domain visibility across subnets, based on DNS only
From: Radu IONESCU <iradu@unitbv.ro>
Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 13:32:05 +0300

Hello everybody,

There were several threads related with this topic, including some initiated by me
and never answered, so please excuse me for the redundancy...

It is about a LAN with 5 NT servers on the backbone. Behind 4 of them (zone servers,
as I call them), there are subnets routed via RRAS RIP 2. The main server is PDC,
and the zone servers are BDCs.
The main server runs MS DNS Primary (it runs also MS Proxy 2).
Protocol is TCP/IP only. DNS, No LMHOSTS, no DHCP, no WINS.
The backbone and the subnets have different internal (10.1.x.x) C classes.
The name for DNS domain, NT domain and Win 95 workgroup is the same.

Problem(s):

1. Any workstation (Win 95) on a subnet can see (in Netwrk. Neighb.) all 5 servers,
(including the DNS server) and, of course, all its neighbors in the same subnet.
(Routing works fine, everything is ping-able.)
Also, it can connect to any resource available in the whole LAN, by indicating the
proper network path.
But the logged on w/s from another subnets are not visible in Netwrk. Neighb.
Is it possible to have them listed, by using only NetBIOS DNS resolution ?
That is, without all those lmhosts included, or WINS server in each subnet.
What would be a NT 5 oriented solution ?

(this is a routing question, not related with the above:)
2. In the NT servers, I set the RIP interfaces toward backbone as RIP 2 only, multicast,
but I left the interfaces toward the subnets, as default set. Not very detailed in the RRAS
docs. Should I extend (for better...) the setting on both sides of the RRAS router as RIP 2
only, multicast ?

Thank you for any help and best regards,

->The backbone and the subnets have different internal (10.1.x.x) C classes.

A 10.X block is a Class A, not a Class C even if subnetted down to 254
hosts. This can cause some confusion/problems if not remembered.

Neighb.

Do any of the NT servers have multiple NICs or are multihomed into more then
one subnet? I've run only one Wins server accross multiple subnets and
domains and had no problems so you do not need a Wins server on each subnet
but it does increase traffic.

If you get an answer to this, please copy me.

I had a similar error this morning. A server.createobject call to a dll
that has been in use for months just started. When I rebooted, I lost all
connections, even though the ports to IIS would respond.

Never got an event message or any errors. After the 4th reboot, all seemed
well and good. I tried a few things, but nothing I can determine as
significant.

Hi this may be an old question, but then it should be quite easy to answer
it ;-)

I'm looking for an easy way to set password secured directories without
having to set up NT-Accounts (maybe with JS,CGI, Perl...)
The best way would be to have a webform where our webcustomers can manage
their access-permissions themselves
Pls point me into the right direction .T.I.A.

Hello List,

I have a customer using Winframe 1.7 and a Sony 2Gb DAT.
Does anybody know of a Winframe / NT 3.51 graphical interface to schedule
Backups using NTBackup ?
I have tried the WINAT backup program that came with the NT resources CD but
it wont work.

Any help would be great

Hello.

For those of you using IMail, I have some questions.

1. Does IMail have a feature to limit the mailboxsize on a per user / per
domain basis ?

2. How does IMail handle it ? Does it immediately reject incoming emails
once the limit has been reached ? Or does it receive it first in it's
entirety and then delete or send it back ?

Danny,

1. Does IMail have a feature to limit the mailboxsize on a per user / per
domain basis ?

Yes--User Manager or Administrator will let you set the amount (tho I think
it's in kb)

2. How does IMail handle it ? Does it immediately reject incoming emails
once the limit has been reached ? Or does it receive it first in it's

dunno--let my users have all the mail on the server they want (until I tell
them it's spring cleaning time)
