Hi

I'm fairly new to NT, but we have a dedicated web server set up with Cold
Fusion on mainly for our clients sites which we administer using
PCAnywhere. One of our clients wants FTP access to their directory and I
haven't a clue how to set them up to do this. We are running IIS 4.0,
but at the moment I only seem to be able to set either anonymous or
administrator privileges.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Cheers

Ade

I had a similar problem and it turned out that my upstream provider had not
made my nameservers authoritative for that segment of their network and then
by default their nameservers were default. There is nothing you can do about
this, they must change it.

Follow up on HP's new 4.31 version of the LT WinModem
software.

The client still could not connect. We are able to connect them
at our office. Perhaps they have poor wiring and or low line voltage.
We did have them unplug all other phone devices on the line but
it did not help.

I perform a dig on your machine and indeed see the PTR records are correct.
I would venture that your upstream provider does not have the in-addr.arpa
pointed at your dns server. In fact when I perform a dig on my machine the
SOA for those IP addresses is ns.cancom.net. If that is your upstream
provider then they need to modify the in-addr.arpa records to your primary
DNS server, or ask them to provide that as secondary to your primary,
either way that is the source of the problem.... ( My obversations)

Victor,

There was some discussion a while ago about AOL blocking CF mail because
some spammers had been using CF to send out mailings. Just a thought.
Also, is the mailserver on your machine, or are you using SMTP at another
server for sending the form? IF the FROM field is not configured
correctly, some mail server won't send.

Hi, I may be a bit off topic here, but I am trying to fix a quirk in our
system that is driving us all CRAZY.

In our own domain, reverse DNS Lookup works fine, our MS DNS appears to be
configured correctly.

but when I query servers outside my domain, even a root server, they can
never figure out who we are.

Is anyone who knows MS DNS willing to give me a hand via chat or something
to troubleshoot it?

My DNS servers are:

209.205.52.2 (Secondary to .8)

209.205.52.8 (Primary)

This has the follwoing zones:

auroranet.nt.ca
spyd.com
designerden.com
52.205.209.in-addr.arpa

My email is webmaster@auroranet.nt.ca
ICQ# is 1908691

From: "Zak Wolfinger" <zak@cyberlink.com>

Has anyone else encountered (and fixed?) this? Inetinfo.exe (iis 4.0)
has started crashing with DrWatson reporting an access violation in
inetinfo.dbg. This only happens when we try to load pages with ASP or
Cold Fusion in them. Regular no-frills .htm files come up fine.

Just seeing the error without seeing the code that's failing doesn't give
one much to go on. Where's the code?

Hi;
According to Arin (http://www.arin.net/whois/), the IP addresses
209.205.52.0 belongs to INTERLINK.NET.
Whenever we get new addresses from MCI we have to file an InAddr request
for that licence before our reverse DNS works properly. You may have your
software configured properly, it may be the rest of the world just doesn't
know it yet.

Subject: PERL on IIS - How??
From: Darryl Harvey <darryl@myemail.com.au>
Date: Wed, 03 Jun 1998 12:05:55 +1000

What do I need to do to get perl scripts running under IIS ?

I have Perl installed, I have associated .pl and .cgi extensions with the
Perl executable (C:\Perl\bin\perl.exe) but when run from a browser, the
script result is never returned. The scripts are very simple at this stage
and just output a simple HTML header. If I try to load the page from a
browser, the perl executable is seen to start (in task manager) but it just
hangs there.

If i run the script from the command prompt, it executes fine and
terminates correctly.

What am I missing ??

Help please.

I have gotten several complaints from my customers that their e-mail forms
such as scrolling text boxes do not work(The people do not get sent an
e-mail). Are there any hints on how to easily configure the server so that
it will send the mail message to the appropriate person? BTW...They have
specified in the Frontpage program to do an e-mail response. Thanks

Make sure you have added the following line to your frontpage.ini in the
[FrontPage 3.0] section for all sites, or in the section for the individual
site requiring posting to email account.

I had to manually go into the registry and create a mime-type for .pl files
in the IIS settings, and also configure it as an executable under the web
service. I'm out of town right now, or I'd give you the exact keys. The
executable key is right along side ASP extentions.

The reason I didnt include it is because this is the seond time it comes
up. Here is the code:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 3.2 Final//EN">

" height=110>

<%=RS("AssetDescription")%>
Quantity:<%=RS("Quantity")%>
Manufacturer:<%=RS("Manufacturer")%>
<% if RS("Hold") = 0 then response.write("This item is available") else response.write("This item is on HOLD") end if %>
<% if RS("Liquidate") = 0 then response.write(" ") else response.write("Marked for liquidation") end if %>
<% if RS("Condition") = "5=Excellent/New" then response.write ("") response.write ("") response.write ("") response.write ("") response.write ("") end if if RS("Condition") = "4=Good, Light touch-up or cleaning needed" then response.write ("") response.write ("") response.write ("") response.write ("") end if if RS("Condition") = "3=Requires some touch-up/reupholstery" then response.write ("") response.write ("") response.write ("") end if if RS("Condition") = "2=Requires substantial touch-up/reupholstery"then response.write ("") response.write ("") end if if RS("Condition") = "1=Damaged beyond repair" then response.write ("") end if %>

Subject: RE: PERL on IIS - How??
From: Darryl Harvey <darryl@myemail.com.au>

Thanks all for your help.

I finally got it working. I had to manually add the association in the
registry as well as add the bit I failed to add. Two "%s"'s after the
executable;

IE: .pl = C:\Perl\bin\perl.exe %s %s

This fixed the problem and it all started to execute.

Thanks, My clients are happy now.

Subject: Re: ASP Server Create Object

All the fluff in your code having to do with tables and so on is not
relevant to the question you asked. People will have an easier time helping
you if you learn what to include and what to omit when you describe a
problem.

Set DBConn =
Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
DBConn.ConnectionTimeout = Session("DBConn_ConnectionTimeout")
DBConn.CommandTimeout = Session("DBConn_CommandTimeout")
DBConn.Open Session("DBConn_ConnectionString"),
Session ("DBConn_RuntimeUserName"),
Session("DBConn_RuntimePassword")

The last three lines above are absent from your code.

If you use Visual Interdev, use their design time Data Command Control to
generate some code for you. Use that code to figure out how database
connections work in ASP.
