winsock.dll problems

I've recently had a rash of problems related to the winsock.dll of my
users. After never having this problem before, I've now had six users
report strange problems with their Windows95 winsock... things like it
connecting, but not going on the network, or not allowing connections,
or giving an error after it connects. Strange problems, all different,
and all seemingly caused by a corrupted winsock.dll.

Does anyone have an explanation for this other than coincidence?
Perhaps a new virus that affects the winsock.dll? Perhaps a new
version of some popular software that overwrites the winsock, or a bug
in winsock that's causing it to crash at this particular date? Any
ideas would be welcome, this is getting very annoying.
