Restoring dump files

Dale or anyone familiar with SQL

I am trying to restore dump files to test my backups.

I know you must start SQL in single user mode and I know how to do that.

Must I resize my master to the size it was so I can do the restore?
Do I need to create a Emerald db?????

A rough procedure would be helpful.
