Testing my SQL Backup Files

I'm trying to test my backup files from the SQL DB

I have the Master and the emerald dump files and i'm trying to restore
to a test server.

I got to the point where i had restored them, by starting SQL in single
user mode and then used restore.

What do i have to do before this happens correctly. Do i need to expand
the current master db to the size the backup master is?

A rough proceedure might help me muddle my way throgh it.
