^M is the comm program notation for a carriage return. (Pressing Enter)
\r is the C programming notation for a carriage return. (Pressing Enter)
Neither before *or* after. INSTEAD OF.
i.e.
AT&C1&D2S0=1\r
This MAY solve your problem, but I still wouldn't use Sportsters on an ISP.
They are consumer grade modems, and you want a commercial grade modem like
the Courier.
