If you haven't found the fix yet.
There are a few entries in the microsoft KB on this.
There is also a downloadable patch for the licensing service too.
Just found this out myself.

Hello,
I am getting an license error every few hours that says the product is
nearing the maximum number of license. when I look at the error log it
says that it is the SMB server...
Any ideas or suggestions on how to correct this. I have installed and
registered it all on microsoft.
